2011 Coaches (Partial List)

Girls' Coaches

Eliza Bennett
An East Coast transplant, Eliza was a four-year varsity starter and senior captain of both the soccer and lacrosse teams Darien High School in Connecticut. She attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, where she started in every game she played in. Transitioning from midfield to attack her junior and senior years, she captained the team during her senior season (2009-2010) but was unable to step on the field in 2010 due to concussions. During her time at Dartmouth, the Big Green consistently remained a top 25 Division I program and was successful in the ever-competitive Ivy League.

She has coached for 8 years at the youth and club level, most recently for the Connecticut Chargers, a Connecticut-based team with athletes recruited by Division I college coaches. She has been involved in many youth educational endeavors, including hands-on cooking classes for underprivileged students in San Francisco.

Eliza moved to the Bay Area in 2010 after traveling in South America, and she has fully embraced the food culture out here.  She is excited for her first season of West Coast lacrosse (and even more relieved not to have to bring snow shovels to practice!) She’s looking forward to working with the U13 SF Riptide players on developing their skills while maintaining a positive attitude and a good work ethic, but always finding time for laughter.

Lisi Dean (Coach & Girl's Program Director)
Having grown up in Baltimore, Lisi was exposed to lacrosse at a young age.  She started playing in 6th grade and played high school field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse for St. Paul's School in Concord, NH, where she was a High School All-American in lacrosse.  Lisi then played midfield for four years at Harvard, where she was Co-Captain, 1st Team All-American, All Ivy and selected to the NCAA finals where they lost to Penn State by one goal.  She also played Varsity women's ice hockey while at Harvard.

Her greatest lacrosse accolade was playing on the US Women's Team the year following her Harvard graduation.  She is a graduate of the Kellogg School, Northwestern University, and spent 10 years following Kellogg in San Francisco, working as an institutional salesperson.

Lisi returns to the SF Riptide Coaching Staff with the U11 team this year.  In addition to coaching, Lisi is also serving for a second year as Girl's Program Director.  In this role, she leads the Riptide's efforts to further develop and grow our girl's program in the future, evolving the program to where our boy's program is today. She and her husband Christopher live in San Francisco and have three children, two girls and a boy, who attend Marin Country Day School.

Julie Forsberg
Julie returns for her second season as a Riptide Girls U9 Lacrosse Coach in Spring 2012. Growing up in Colorado, Julie started playing lacrosse in 5th grade and lettered with Cherry Creek High School’s Girls Varsity Lacrosse.

Julie received a BFA from Syracuse University. While at Syracuse, Julie joined the Women’s Club Lacrosse program. She co-managed the team and participated in getting the club registered on the East Coast Women’s Lacrosse League.

Since moving to San Francisco, she has been involved in local organizations such as Co-Chair for Hedge Funds Care Committee of Hope, Communication Committee for AWAI, and Committee Member for Spinsters. Additionally, she works to foster personal artwork and design projects for corporations and non-profit organizations.

Mike Gerrity
Mike Gerrity grew up in Colorado just as lacrosse was starting its boom in the state. He picked up his first stick in a sandlot game in 8th grade and was hooked. Mike went on to play midfield for 4 years at Cherry Creek High School and earned All-State Honors in his senior year. Mike continued his career playing club lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2008, Mike was thrilled to pick up a stick again to teach the game to his two sons and their friends. He started an after-school lacrosse clinic to introduce the game to a small group of 6 and 7 year old boys and formed a U9 team that played games against other North Bay clubs. Mike decided to team up with the Quakes for the 2010 season and coached the club’s inaugural U9 team. Mike focuses on teaching lacrosse basics, having fun and shariing his passion for the game.   Mike is excited to coach girls U9 lacrosse for the first time, while also assisting with his older son's U13 team.

Kristyn Gherardi
A Bay Area native, Kristyn Gherardi joins Riptide for her first season. Kristyn played lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer for 4 years at St. Ignatius College Prep and continued her lacrosse career at UC Santa Barbara’s top ranked club program. At UCSB, Kristyn earned First Team All-League all four years, was a two-time First Team All American, and named the 2008 National Defender of the Year. She was a two-year Captain and led the team to a top 5 finish at the National tournament each year.

Kristyn studied Biology and Exercise and Health Science at UCSB and now works in Business Development in the Clinical Research industry.

Kristyn coaches a marathon training team and continues to play lacrosse for San Francisco’s BayLax team. As there were no local youth lacrosse opportunities for her growing up, Kristyn is ecstatic that youth lacrosse has reached San Francisco. She is excited to join the Riptide coaching U13 girls and pass on her passion for the sport

Traci Marabella
Traci joins us by way of Philadelphia. She attended William Penn Charter High School, where  during her senior year she was named captain, led her school to their second ever league Championship and was named a high school All-American. After high school, Traci went on to play mid-field attack for Penn from 1999 - 2002, during the Quaker's transitional years. As a freshman, Traci started every game while helping her team to a rather unimpressive  1-12 overall record. By her final season, Traci had been named co-captain of both the 2001 & 2002 seasons, earned All-Ivy honors, Honorable Mention All-American honors and was inivited to the Women's National Developmental Team tryouts. The feat she is most proud of is that those 1-12 Quakers from her freshman season were long gone. By 2002, the Penn Quakers were nationally ranked at 15th during the season and made it to the team's first ever finals of the ECAC championship. In the past 9 seasons, Penn has made it to 3 final fours and 5 NCAA Tournaments.

In her professional life, Traci has been in sales for the past 8 years and has embraced the tech start-up culture of San Francisco. She is working for a rapidly growing automated marketing software company called Demandforce. Demandforce is right in the heart of the city by Union Square.

Traci is thrilled about growing the sport of lacrosse on the west coast and cannot think of a better way to do it, than to teach our youth the rules of the game, sportsmanship and most importantly, the valuable life-lesson that with determination, hard work and a positive attitude anything is possible.

Katie Moran
Katie Moran is a Bay Area native. She attended St. Ignatius College Prep, where she played lacrosse for four years. Under great coaches, Katie grew to be a stand-out defender, three-time captain, and three-year Varsity player. Katie then went to U.C. Santa Barbara, a competitive club team in Southern California where she moved to the midfield and was named her team’s Rookie of the Year in 2006, All-League in 2007, 1st Team All-American in 2008, and National Player of the Year and All-American in 2009. Her team finished third in the nation in 2009.

Moran graduated UCSB with highest honors and was selected by Teach for America. As a Teach for America Corps Member, Moran now teaches a Special Day Class at Balboa High School. She teaches Environmental Science, Math, and English to 11th grade students with special needs.

Moran, eager to continue her lacrosse career, contacted City Lacrosse and could not wait to begin coaching other girls and showing them the sport that made her who she is today. She hopes to instill fundamentals and a love of the game in her third season as a coach.

Catherine Rollhaus
Catherine played varsity lacrosse for 4 years at Choate Rosemary Hall, a boarding school in Connecticut.  Despite the fact that she did not pick up a stick until the tryouts her freshman year, she immediately fell in love with the sport and went on to play at UC Boulder.  She is looking forward to her first season coaching the her daughter's U11 team with the Riptide!

Emma Spiro
Emma is a 2010 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.  While at UPenn, Emma was a two time All-American as well as a two time First-Team All Ivy Player and the 2009 Co-Ivy League Player of the Year. During her career, she went 32-0 in the Ivy League and made three Final Four appearances as well as played in one National Championship.  Emma was elected to captain the team in 2010 and played in every game of her career until injured early on in her senior year.

A native of Wellesley, MA, Emma moved to the Bay Area upon graduating and joined Teach for America.  She majored in Economics and currently coaches a 5th grade girl's basketball team in Oakland. Emma is excited to develop her career as a coach and help spread lacrosse to the West coast!

Erin Stevenson
Erin is a 2010 graduate of Elon University (NC). While enrolled at Elon, Erin earned a degree in English and played lacrosse for the women’s club team. As an organizational leader of this team, she had the opportunity to sponsor multiple youth clinics to promote the growth of lacrosse in the local community. Erin is VERY excited to continue to share her passion for the game with young players in the Bay Area. The 2012 lacrosse season will be her second season coaching with the SF Riptide.

Erin has been living in San Francisco for almost two years and she absolutely loves the city. She currently works for America SCORES, a nonprofit that promotes youth development in elementary afterschool programs. The organization achieves its goals of developing young community leaders through the implementation of a soccer, poetry, and service-learning curriculum.

Mike Gaudio
Mike grew up in Connecticut where he started playing lacrosse at the age of five and continued through high school. A High School All-American, Mike continued his lacrosse career at Princeton University where he helped the Tigers earn a Final Four berth and three Ivy League Championships. At Princeton, Mike was fortunate enough to play both defensive and offensive midfielder and thus learn both sides of the game from two of the best coaches in lacrosse.  His passion for coaching and involvement in the growth of youth lacrosse started in high school, continued through his college years and beyond, as a history teacher and Varsity lacrosse coach at the Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey. A recent transplant to the West coast, Mike lives in San Francisco and works for Salesforce.com.  He could not be happier continuing his lacrosse career in California as a member of the Marin Lacrosse Team and coach for the Riptide U15 team.
